Picking A Storage Unit

Keeping your items safe in long term storage is very important. There are many different storage unit facilities in each community and all of them are a little bit different, but there will be some that are much better than others. When you are storing your belongings, you want to have the peace of mind knowing your things are in a good facility. To ensure that your belongings are well taken care of, you should do a very good inspection of the different storage unit facilities in your community. Remember that most storage unit facilities will do a great job, but you want the one that fits you the best:

Climate Control

If you will be storing electronics or other temperature sensitive items, then you need to know that there are climate controlled storage units available. This can be super important for a number of reasons. If you are in an area that goes back and forth from hot to cold, the continuous change can be very hard on items. This is especially true of electronics where the continuous expansion and contraction causes the metal to be brittle. Climate control is often important so dew and condensed water does not ruin your belongings.

Pest Control

Ants, spiders, rodents, and other pests can also be a big problem if they are not kept under control. These little pests can cause a lot of damage to your precious items, but the good news is they can be controlled and kept out of your storage unit. When you are inspecting the storage unit, look for any sign that there may have been a pest problem. Look for any bugs and look for fecal pellets as well. Be sure to talk to the facility manager about pest control and if pest control is an option for your unit.

Security

You want to have the confidence that your items are being securely stored, and that there is no way a burglar could steal your items. The storage unit facility will provide a great deal of protection. Especially if you decided to go with a facility that had indoor units. Be sure that the facility has only one way in or out of the complex, has a tall fence with a razor or barbed wire, and has a security camera. If your unit has these things, you should be well protected. Do not settle for a subpar storage unit.
